Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini

Daughter unlawful for a wealthy businessman, Mariam grows up with her mother in a modest house on the outskirts of Herat. At fifteen, her life changes drastically when her father sent to Kabul to marry Rasheed, a shoemaker sullen thirty years older than her. Nearly two decades later, Rashid is in the streets of Kabul to Laila, a fifteen year old homeless. When the shoemaker offered shelter in his house, to be shared with Mariam, between the two women began a relationship that will become as deep as two sisters, as strong as that of mother and daughter. Despite the age difference and the different experiences that life has brought the need to face the terrible surrounding circumstances-both indoors and on the streets, where political violence ravaging the country, "Mariam and Laila will be forging an unbreakable bond that will give them the strength to overcome fear and make room for hope.

few days ago I finished this novel and I'm still excited, I can not forget these characters. For many things we read or hear in the media, one is not truly aware of the situation of women in Afghanistan, until they know stories how are you, like Mariam and Laila, representing Afghan women, immersed in injustice, terror, violence and barbarism.

the other hand, repentance is also shown as in The Kite Runner, in several characters, sometimes more entrenched. The novel is very crude and in many scenes you are filled with sadness and helplessness. But you can keep hoping the end, because the players always have a thread of hope despite so much suffering, and that is allowing them to continue walking. Laila holds on to his children and Tariq for example.

Wonderful and heartbreaking novel that lets us know another reality, the hand of Mariam and Laila. For now, Khaled Hosseini seems that it will not publish anything in the near future, we hope to continue working and in the years to come back to surprise us with another novel.

"He is never far away from it. (...) It's in the laughter of children, in the verses Aziza recites the prayers and whispers when tilted westward. But above all, is at the heart of Laila, which shines with the radiance of a thousand suns. "

" Laila shook as he walked away. Thought Tomos whole and a new chill ran through her body, a feeling of sadness and helplessness, but also of expectation and hope reckless. "

" Mariam was lying on the couch with his hands between his knees , watching the snow swirling outside the window. He recalled that Nana had told her once that each snowflake was a sigh of a woman who had offended somewhere in the world. That all the sighs ascended to heaven, forming clouds and then crumbled into tiny pieces that fell silently on the people.
to remember how much women suffer as we had said. With much resignation endure what we have to suffer. "
